Symptom: Replacement Edgeport USB to RS-232 communications converter box is incompatible, preventing reliable RS-232 communications.

Problem Description: Edgeport USB to RS-232 converter has a changed internal "Chip-set" causing incompatibility problems for the 5DX IPC computer.

Solution: Install attached Edgeport Driver version 3.60 when replacing Edgeport Box and when performing a 5DX System Controller recovery.

Installation Procedure:

  1. Download and unzip the Edgeport Driver 3.60 file below to a temporary folder on 5DX System Controller.
  2. Go to Control Panel.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select Hardware Tab.
  5. Select Device Manager button.
  6. Select Multi-port serial adapters
  7. Select Inside-Out Network Edgeport/4
  8. Select Driver tab
  9. Select Update Driver button.
  10. Select “Yes, this time only”. Click next.
  11. Select “Install from a list or specific location”. Click next.
  12. Select “Search for the best driver in these locations”.
  13. Only check box “Include this location in the search”.
  14. Enter temporary folder location from step 1 and click next.
  15. After installation the IonMultiPortSerial icon will appear in the Device Manager window.
  16. Restart computer.
  17. Go to Start menu → All Programs → Inside Out Networks → Edgeport Configuration Utility.
  18. Click on Configure, manually change the Port numbers:
  • Port 1 = 3
  • Port 2 = 4
  • Port 3 = 5
  • Port 4 = 6

Note: Edgeport Driver version 3.60 will work with the changed “Chip-set” and the older “Chip-set”.
