A fault model reproduced with HILS more comprehensive

Using hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) for ECU testing at R&D helps dramatically increase product development speed, versus previous test methods performed with actual vehicles. However, developers may not be able to reap the full benefits from using HILS without a comprehensive test phenomena model. To ensure the accuracy of development and verification while using HILS, the development models must comprehensively cover defects caused by multiple factors.

Causes and results: Not one to one, but multiple to multiple

The conventional method was to capture CAN message errors and sensor signals through multiple channels to detect the causes of analog errors in sensors and actuators. However, a single factor may result in multiple outcomes, or multiple causes may result in a single outcome. It would be very helpful for developers to be able to observe between multiple devices when various conditions occur, such as communication signal disturbance, unexpected noise on the power supply line, and PWM oscillation.

Increased communication speed among in-vehicle devices has resulted in significant rise times of error signals.
