The Dual Channel Radar Simulator (DCRS)
The Keysight Technologies, Inc. Dual Channel Radar Simulator system is designed to generate complex RF waveforms and provide remote control of the signal playback. The DCRS is comprised of a Server for creating and storing waveforms and a complex signal generation subsystem. The server connects to the signal generation subsystem via the Internet/Intranet.
The server(s) and signal generation subsystem must all reside inside your company Intranet or all be placed on the open Internet for this system to operate correctly. This software does not bypass typical customer firewall security in any way.
The DCRS Client remote software is a utility that enables users to remotely coordinate, download and execute the RF waveforms to be played out of each source control.
Optional Multichannel Configuration
This system can be configured as a Multi Channel Radar Simulator capable of generating complex RF waveforms and providing remote control of the signal playback. Please contact your Keysight sales representative with your specific requirements for optional configuration and ordering options.

The Dual Channel Radar Simulator is very useful in any application requiring remote control of a signal generation system.
DCRS Server
The PC workstation (Server) will interface to the equipment (signal generation subsystem) via LAN interface. This interface will support full remote operation of all of the DCRS equipment and facilitate local control as well as supporting external signal downloading via standard TCP/IP protocol. Windows XP Professional is the main operating software on this system.
N7509A Waveform Generation Toolkit Application software will be installed to enable the user(s) to create and deploy waveforms to either of the two RF channel outputs in this system.
The DCRS Client remote software utility will enable users to remotely, coordinate download and execute the RF waveforms to be played out of each source control. Backup software will be provided for the system to ensure minimum downtime and loss of data.
Complex Signal Generation Subsystem
This complex signal generation subsystem is comprised of the Keysight Technologies, Inc. N8241A dual channel arbitrary waveform generator. This is the heart of the DCRS solution. The N8241A is a 15 bit, 1.25 GSample per second, dual channel arbitrary waveform generator. This AWG offers excellent fidelity over very wide bandwidths. The N8241A may be utilized in a dual channel IF mode (DC to 400 MHz) or in a baseband I/Q mode to achieve bandwidths up to 1.0 GHz. The DCRS solution is anticipating the use of the N8241A in the I/Q mode, however, the IF mode allows the ability to provide direct signal outputs up to 400 MHz directly from the N8241A.
The N8241A includes both waveform and sequencing memory to allow complex signals and sequences to be loaded into the playback memory. The N8241A provides four trigger inputs as well as four marker outputs. The trigger input will be used to begin playing a given signal or sequence, and the markers may be programmed to output a signal at a given sample or signal location Note that both RF1 and RF2 can and will be totally independent of each other and their outputs will not be coherent.
N8212A option 330, Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) Software makes it possible to define a carrier in the Sequence memory of the N8241A as a single instruction. The start and stop carrier frequencies as well as a phase offset are specified for each sequence stored in the waveform memory. Only the narrowband baseband I/Q modulation data is stored in the waveform memory. The narrowband waveform memory is clocked at a much reduced rate and interpolated before placing it on the carrier in real-time. This greatly extends the play time. Also stored in the sequence memory is a gain factor that can be used for fading applications. These DDS enhancements make it possible to store much longer unique signal scenarios.
DCRS Client Remote Software Utility
DCRS Client Remote Software will coordinate, download and execute RF waveforms to be played out of each source. The DCRS Client Remote Software includes the following additional functions:
Provides a central interface for the user to control the signal generators and AWGs.
Allows the user to select IQ binary or DDS sequenced waveforms that have been previously generated with the N7509A Waveform Generation Toolkit.
Downloads the signal files to the hardware for signal playback.
Provides status of signal playback.

The DCRS system is comprised of two N8241A AWG, two E8267D PSG and a Dell 690 Workstation. These items will be delivered as a complete system with all software installed and the hardware configured.
