Measuring accurate EVM by suppressing system noise in 5G NR receivers
Measuring the true performance of the device under test (DUT) in 5G new radio (NR) receivers requires a test system that suppresses the system noise to get a lower error vector magnitude (EVM) floor at higher frequencies and wider bandwidths. The test system’s residual EVM noise floor must be low enough so it is not the dominant source of error, or so that it does not mask the DUT’s true performance.
The test system should include two signal analyzers with signal analysis software and be able to compare the measured EVM of the test system on each to mathematically remove the noise contributed by the test system. This method is called cross-correlated EVM (ccEVM) and provides an accurate and reliable DUT EVM measurement for 5G NR frequency range 1 (FR1) and FR2 applications.
5G NR receiver test solution
Measuring accurate EVM for a DUT in a 5G NR system requires a test system that can suppress system noise. The Keysight 5G NR receiver test solution combines two N9042B UXA X-Series signal analyzers (spectrum analyzers) with N9085EM0E PathWave X-Series multi-touch application software. The cross-correlated EVM method compares the EVM measurements of the test system from each signal analyzer to remove the noise contributed by the test system. This enables you to measure the true performance of your DUT at high frequencies up to 110 GHz and wide bandwidths up to 4 GHz in 5G NR FR1 and FR2 applications and beyond.

In this video, you will learn a new technique to measure EVM, called cross-correlated EVM (ccEVM). Using UXR, VXG, and UXA. The idea of ccEVM is to mathematically remove the noise from the measurement system, so you get a clearer picture of the true EVM performance of the DUT.
