E-Bike Battery Pack Testing and Modeling

E-bike battery testing requires a bidirectional power connection that can charge and discharge the pack while measuring voltage and current directly at its terminals. Use a four-wire configuration so wiring resistance does not distort the programmed voltage or measured pack voltage. Begin by recording open-circuit voltage, then apply a controlled current profile and log voltage, current, elapsed time, and accumulated charge. Battery capacity validation is performed by discharging the pack to a defined cut-off condition and measuring the charge delivered during the run. Internal resistance measurement uses short current pulses separated by rest intervals, allowing resistance to be calculated from the corresponding voltage and current changes. These measurements establish a repeatable electrical profile for e-bike battery testing at defined load conditions and state-of-charge points.

Battery modeling extends the test across state of charge by periodically measuring open-circuit voltage and series internal resistance as the pack discharges. Current pulse width and rest time can be adjusted to represent the load behavior of the target e-bike system, while constant or dynamic profiles reproduce different discharge demands. Battery cycling combines charge, rest, discharge, and rest steps into a repeated sequence so voltage, current, capacity, and cycle-to-cycle changes can be logged. The test can stop when an open-circuit voltage, load voltage, or consumed-capacity threshold is reached. The resulting battery model links voltage and internal resistance to state of charge and can be exported for analysis or reused for battery emulation. This workflow combines battery capacity validation, battery cycling, internal resistance measurement, and battery modeling in one test process.

E-Bike Battery Pack Test Solution

Perform the test with a four-wire pack connection, controlled charge and discharge profiles, and defined voltage or consumed-capacity cut-off conditions. The Pro ATE System Power Supply is a 2 kW two-quadrant power platform that is suitable for a 36 V, 20 Ah e-bike battery, while the Advanced Battery Test and Emulation Software provides the software workflow for profiling, charging, discharging, cycling, visualization, logging, and analysis. For e-bike battery testing, the setup supports battery capacity validation by measuring delivered charge during discharge and stored charge during charging. Internal resistance measurement uses short current pulses with rest intervals, and battery modeling records open-circuit voltage and resistance versus state of charge. Battery cycling can sequence charge, discharge, and rest steps while continuously logging voltage, current, and capacity. Test data can be reviewed during operation, exported for further analysis, or retained as a battery model for subsequent battery emulation.
