For a quick connection to your 33220A, a TELNET connection may be used by following these steps:

  1. Set the IP address. See the links below for an FAQ on connecting directly via LAN or the Connectivity Guide for more information.
  2. If desired, open the web page by typing the IP address into a web browser. The main page will show the IP address. Selecting "Advanced information" will display the port used for Telnet, which defaults to 5024.
  3. Start the command window by going to the START menu of many Windows operating systems. Select “Run” and type cmd. Press OK.
  4. If desired, test your connection by typing ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the IP address of the unit) at the command prompt.
  5. Start Telnet by typing telnet at the command prompt.
  6. In Telnet, type open xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 5024 (the IP address of the unit and 5024 is the default Telnet port). You should see a welcome message.
  7. Set the unit to remote by typing SYSTem:COMMunicate:RLSTate REMote
  8. Type *IDN? to verify the connection to the instrument.
  9. Type the instrument commands as desired.
