General description 

Testing of fiber pigtailed optical components is a key process step for optical component manufacturers and supports optimization of their productivity and quality. Keysight’s new bare fiber connectivity products are designed to deliver high performance repeatable connection with the minimum operator time. The inexpensive bare fiber holder can remain on the device throughout the complete product manufacturing process – by just leaving the lightweight bare fiber holder on the pigtail.

How to use 

  1. Prepare fiber: Strip and cleave fiber. Remaining blank fiber excess length after cleaving has to be between 5 mm and 11 mm. Select appropriate bare fiber holder: BFH 250/400 for fibers with outside diameter between 250 μm and 400 μm, BFH 900 for fibers with outside diameter of 900 μm (see marking in the base of V-groove of bare fiber holder). 
  2. Open bare fiber holder (press on left and right side and open top cover). 
  3. Insert fiber into V-grove of bare fiber holder with fiber extending from front side by 7 – 10 mm. 
  4. Close bare fiber holder, but do not snap down.
  5. Snap bare fiber holder into gauge. 
  6. Pull back fiber until fiber end is aligned to outer gage surface ( } 0.2 mm). 
  7. Close bare fiber holder (snap down). 
  8. Remove bare fiber holder from gauge. 
  9. Plug bare fiber holder into instrument adapter (head adapter, power meter module adapter or bare fiber quad-adapter).
