86146Bは、波長範囲が600～1700 nmの回折格子方式スペクトラム・アナライザでです。このOSAは、ダブルパス・モノクロメータを採用し、高い感度と広いダイナミック・レンジを短い掃引時間で同時に実現しています。この機能は、DWDMコンポーネント、広帯域の受動コンポーネントだけでなく、狭帯域の信号源（DFB）、広帯域の信号源（FP）、光増幅器（EDFA、ラマン増幅器、SOA）などの能動光コンポーネントの特性評価に重要な機能です。
また、86146Bは高性能な光スペクトラム・アナライザで、高速チューニング、低挿入損失、再現性の高い波長確度によって、1つのDWDMチャネルをドロップする柔軟なフィルタ・モードを備えています。
フィルタ・モードを使用する他のアプリケーションとして、タイム・リゾールブ・チャープ（TRC）の測定があります。このフィルタと81600C DCAとを組み合わせて使用すると、レーザのチャープ測定が行えます。
