Keysight's eCall / ERA-GLONASS Conformance Test Solution simulates the required four vehicle system elements for emergency safety testing: the in-vehicle system (IVS) module, global network satellite system (GNSS), cellular network, and public service answering point (PSAP) to compile the minimum set of data (MSD). This setup makes it possible to verify if the in-vehicle system or modem can trigger an emergency call, send the correct raw MSD data, and establish a voice connection with the PSAP. This platform tests both Pan-European and ERA-GLONASS platforms, fully independent of any real-world mobile network, using a signal generator to emulate a cellular network. Request a quote for the eCall / ERA-GLONASS Conformance Test Solution today. Want to learn more about this solution? Explore the resources below.
Support the mandatory conformance tests defined by various Pan-European regional and international standards, including CEN, ETSI, and GOST for Next Generation (NG) capabilities.
Perform end-to-end validation of the entire eCall/ERA-GLONASS workflow, which is critical for ensuring system functionality as intended in real-world emergency scenarios.
Provide static and dynamic GNSS coordinates within a controlled lab setting, including emulating the cellular network (GSM, LTE for NG eCall).
Meticulously verify the transmission of the Minimum Set of Data (MSD), which contains vital information about the accident (vehicle ID, location, timestamp).

The E6950B NG eCall solution simplifies testing NG eCall modules, ensuring full compliance with standards and offering optional audio performance analysis.
The E6950B test solution includes the following features:
The E6950B eCall / ERA-GLONASS / NG eCall Conformance Test Solution simulates a PSAP and controls a UXM5G to emulate a cellular network. The MXG/EXG provides GNSS coordinates required by the in-vehicle system (IVS) to compile the minimum set of data (MSD). This setup makes it possible to verify if the IVS or modem can trigger an emergency call, send the correct raw MSD data, and establish a voice connection with the PSAP, testing both Pan European, ERA-GLONASS and NG eCall platforms. The setup is fully independent of any real-world mobile network. An optional audio analyzer for parallel testing of speech quality is also available.

eCall, short for emergency call, is a European Union initiative designed to automatically alert emergency services in the event of a serious road accident. Its primary goal is to significantly reduce emergency response times, thereby saving lives and mitigating the severity of injuries. The eCall system is now mandatory in all light-duty vehicles since April 2018 and operates through a combination of in-vehicle technology and established emergency communication networks. Once activated, the eCall system establishes a connection to the nearest Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), which is the emergency services call center. It transmits a minimum set of data (MSD), which includes crucial information about the incident.
eCall and ERA-GLONASS are both automated emergency response systems designed to provide rapid assistance to motorists involved in collisions. While they serve similar purposes, they operate in different geographical regions and have some distinct characteristics. Emergency call (eCall) is primarily used in the European Union. It was made mandatory for all new passenger cars and light-duty vehicles sold in the EU as of April 2018. Emergency Response System - GLONASS (ERA-GLONASS) is primarily used in Russia and countries using GLONASS, Russia's global satellite navigation system, like Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan. While distinct, the systems are designed to have a degree of interoperability, with UN regulations aligning the ERA-GLONASS system with the EU's eCall.
The eCall system offers a range of significant benefits for road safety, accident response, and ultimately, saving lives. Here are some of the advantages:
In summary, eCall is a powerful safety feature that transforms post-crash response, significantly improving the chances of survival and recovery for those involved in road accidents.
eCall is specifically designed to transmit only the Minimum Set of Data (MSD) necessary for emergency services to respond effectively to an accident. The data transmitted is strictly limited to prioritize privacy while ensuring life-saving information is conveyed. The MSD includes vehicle location, time of incident, direction of travel, vehicle identification number (VIN), type of activation, and vehicle propulsion or fuel type. Crucially, the MSD does NOT include personal data like your name, address, or phone number. It focuses solely on immediate accident-related information.
It is important to distinguish between the mandatory public eCall system and other commercial telematics services that some car manufacturers offer. While the eCall system is strictly regulated for privacy, other in-vehicle systems may collect and transmit a much wider range of data for various purposes, and drivers should be aware of the privacy policies associated with those services.
