This application note shows how the RSoft AWG Utility™ helps users design and simulate arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) quickly and accurately. New features include easy switching between 2D, 3D and 3D Effective Index Method (EIM) modes, support for various materials and a simplified workflow. 

 

Using a Si₃N₄-based AWG, the note demonstrates a low-loss, low-crosstalk design with 16 channels. Simulations are done using the Beam Propagation Method (BPM), with 3D EIM, offering fast and reliable results that closely match full 3D simulations. 

 

This tool makes it easy to model complex AWG structures efficiently and is ideal for users working on advanced photonic devices.
