How to Improve Network Reliability through Automated Management

Automate Network Reliability Workflows

Communication service providers must maintain 4G performance while rolling out 5G, network slicing, and new virtual, physical, and cloud elements, often with smaller engineering and support teams after workforce reductions. The objective is continuous visibility into service performance across both generations so issues are identified and isolated before they affect subscribers, while engineers focus on 5G deployment, activation, and new test development.

Reactive operations make this difficult. Problems are often discovered through social media, service monitoring sites, customer complaints, or reactive monitoring tools that cannot isolate the cause. Manual troubleshooting requires engineers to run tests, sift through data from multiple tools, correlate results, locate the issue, and determine root cause, consuming the staff needed for new technology. Attrition also creates visibility gaps and loss of expertise. Teams need automated, around-the-clock testing with emulated user traffic, correlated analytics, and actionable alerts that work the same way across 4G and 5G, so recurring problems are detected automatically and engineers can move between technologies without separate processes.

Automated Network Reliability Solution

The Keysight VisionWorks Service Assurance Platform automates service assurance using the VisionWorks Controller and distributed virtual test agents (VTAs) that generate emulated user traffic around the clock. VisionWorks correlates and analyzes test results, applies advanced signatures to recurring conditions, and issues actionable alerts, removing manual steps from testing, event correlation, and root cause analysis. Test cases built for 5G activation, network slicing, and troubleshooting can be reapplied to 4G performance management, so teams work across both generations with one process. Keysight experts help design tests and signatures. At a Tier 1 operator, deployment grew from 145 to more than 1,100 VTAs running about 250,000 tests per day, with more than half supporting 4G. Each VTA performed the testing workload of 20 or more manual resources, and issues were detected nearly eight hours before major outages.
