  • Limited visibility into complex multi-bus systems

Why the HD3 is different

  • Hardware-based serial decoding for real-time accuracy
  • 1.3M waveforms/sec update rate to capture rare events
  • Time-interleaved decoding for analyzing multiple buses simultaneously
  • Pass/fail mask testing to flag protocol and timing violations

What matters

  • Consistently high waveform update rate
  • Efficient capture of infrequent events
  • Automated detection of signal anomalies

Where many oscilloscopes fall short

  • Update rate drops with measurements enabled
  • Rare events are easily missed
  • Manual search for anomalies is time-consuming

Why the HD3 is different

  • Uncompromised waveform update rate even with analysis active, powered by the MegaZoom 5 ASIC
  • Fault Hunter automatically detects glitches and anomalies
  • Segmented memory captures relevant events without dead time

What matters

  • Ability to analyze signals in time and frequency domains
  • Sufficient bandwidth for modern communication signals
  • Advanced modulation and signal analysis capabilities

Where many oscilloscopes fall short

  • Limited frequency-domain analysis capabilities
  • Require additional dedicated instruments
  • Lack flexibility for complex signal environments

Why the HD3 is different

  • Built-in FFT with up to 96 dB dynamic range and 79 dB SFDR, enabling detailed frequency-domain analysis without a separate spectrum analyzer
  • Compatible with 89600 VSA software for broadband vector signal analysis using the oscilloscope as a front end
  • Supports complex modulation and multi-channel analysis workflows

Why the HD3 Delivers Higher Measurement Accuracy Than Typical Mid-Range Oscilloscopes

The advantage of 14-bit architecture

Most oscilloscopes in this class use 8–12 bit ADCs. While sufficient for general-purpose measurements, they often lack the resolution needed to accurately capture small signal variations.

The number of bits in an ADC sets its vertical resolution: the HD3’s custom 14-bit ADC delivers 16,384 levels – 4× the resolution of a 12-bit design (16,384 vs. 4,096 levels – see comparison table below), and 64× the levels of an 8-bit scope. This increases vertical precision and reduces measurement noise, making it easier to detect low-amplitude signals on top of larger waveforms.

The HD3 performs many functions in hardware for real-time speed, and its low-noise front-end reaches roughly half the noise floor of other general-purpose oscilloscopes. (50 µVrms vs. typically >100 µVrms). 16 digital channels make it well suited to inspect digital systems by capturing analog and digital signals together. Compared with Keysight’s ultra-high-end UXR Series, the HD3 brings true 14-bit ADC vertical resolution into a more general-purpose benchtop oscilloscope class.

The differences become clear when comparing key measurement parameters.

Yes — every unit is functionally tested and certified by Keysight before resale, backed by the same support organization as new equipment.

Power integrity, serial bus debugging, glitch capture, and general-purpose bench measurements that benefit from 14-bit resolution.

14-bit resolution resolves 4x more amplitude detail than a standard 12-bit scope, making small signals and noise easier to see.

The HD3's native 14-bit ADC delivers a lower noise floor and higher effective resolution than 12-bit or 8-bit alternatives at similar bandwidths.

Fault Hunter is Keysight's automated anomaly-detection feature that continuously compares live waveforms against a baseline to flag rare faults.
