816x VXI Plug&Play Driver

Easy programming for high performance applications:

The 816x VXI Plug&Play Driver provides an easy to use programming interface for the 8163B, 8164B and 8166B Lightwave Mainframes and their modular instruments. The driver provides basic functions for setting up the instruments and reading results as well as complete “lambdascan” measurement routines, for synchronizing tunable lasers and power meters for spectral measurements. To the original support for the 816x modular instruments, support has been added for most N7xxA instruments, and version 4.6.x now supports the N774xC power meters and N777xC tunable lasers. The functionality of the driver has not been extended to all the new capabilities of the new instruments. This version also adds a 64-bit implementation.

Easy-to-Use VISA VXIplug&play Driver for Faster, Trouble-free Test Implementation:

The driver integrates multiple GPIB commands into single, easy-to-understand functions, e.g., for the acquisition of a component's loss over wavelength, saving implementation time and reducing the complexity of the test programs. Built-in error handling and parameter checking, as well as the comprehensive online help, lead to success earlier and help to avoid mistakes. It even allows the programming of complex tasks without intimate knowledge of individual GPIB commands and simplifies handling of data arrays.

For spectral measurements the 816x VISA VXIplug&play Driver activates the tunable laser's built-in wavelength logging capability and thus enables a swept wavelength accuracy, linearity, and repeatability like the performance in static operation. Also, the driver has built-in expert knowledge of the triggering and sampling behavior of the power meters, which relieves programmers from studying hardware details. Furthermore, the driver is capable of stitching power measurement sweeps obtained in different power ranges for easily increasing the dynamic range of the resulting spectra.
