Exercise Radar With Dense Multi-Target Scenes

Multi-target radar validation requires simultaneous control of object range, angle, velocity, and reflection level across the radar sensor’s field of view. Engineers configure stationary and moving targets at different positions and separations, then exercise the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) radar sensor while monitoring whether detection and tracking outputs correspond to the programmed scene.

The radar scene is repeated while object count, distance, velocity, and angle are changed systematically. Three-dimensional point-cloud representations and multiple reflections can be used to create denser scenes and distinguish closely spaced objects. Engineers compare detected targets, angle of arrival, range, and track behavior with the intended scene while keeping the radio-frequency environment deterministic between runs.

Multi-Target Automotive Radar Validation Solution

To perform the test, engineers must place multiple simulated radar targets at controlled ranges, angles, and velocities within a repeatable scene. The Keysight Radar Scene Emulator generates full automotive radar scenes rather than a small number of isolated targets, allowing engineers to exercise detection and tracking behavior under multi-target and multi-angle conditions. Keysight specifies operation from 76 to 81 GHz, simulation of up to 512 targets, and support for static and dynamic targets from 1.5 to 300 meters with velocities up to 400 km/h. The system also supports 3D point clouds, multiple reflections, and hardware-in-the-loop integration for repeatable system-validation scenarios.
