Capture Long Operating Cycles and Find Waveform Anomalies

Power-rail characterization is essential for understanding electronic device behavior, optimizing power consumption, and validating product reliability. Engineers need to monitor current and voltage throughout device operating cycles to identify unexpected behavior, investigate peak and in-rush currents, and evaluate power-management performance. However, abnormal events may occur at unpredictable times, making them difficult to capture with conventional measurements. Long-duration recordings also generate large volumes of data that can be time-consuming to review manually. Long-duration data logger measurements address these challenges by continuously recording current and voltage waveforms at sampling rates of up to 10 MSa/s, with measurement durations of up to 100 hours when an appropriate storage device is used. This allows engineers to monitor power-rail behavior over extended operating cycles and investigate events that might otherwise be missed.

After acquisition, engineers can use statistical waveform analysis to review trends across the recording and identify potential anomalies or inflection points. Waveform playback enables detailed examination of selected time intervals and their surrounding waveform data. When trigger conditions are used to identify waveform segments of interest, waveform analytics can group similar segments and report their occurrence counts, helping engineers identify recurring patterns and investigate unusual device behavior. Together, these capabilities help engineers investigate unexpected current behavior, validate device operation, assess waveforms for power optimization, and examine unusual waveform segments. By combining long-duration acquisition with targeted waveform analysis, engineers can reduce manual review effort and gain a more complete understanding of device behavior.

Long–Duration Waveform Measurement Solution

Long-duration waveform measurement requires continuously recording current and voltage waveforms throughout device operating cycles to capture behavior that may occur at unpredictable times. The Keysight Device Current Waveform Analyzer data logger mode supports continuous waveform recording at sampling rates of up to 10 MSa/s and measurement durations of up to 100 hours when suitable storage is used. Engineers can use data logger mode to monitor power-rail behavior during startup, shutdown, active operation, and other operating conditions. The recorded waveform database can then be analyzed using the Device Current Waveform Analyzer software to investigate device behavior over extended measurement periods. The Waveform Trend Analyzer supports statistical analysis of recorded waveforms to help engineers identify potential anomalies and inflection points. Waveform Playback enables detailed inspection of selected waveform segments and surrounding data. When trigger conditions are used to identify segments of interest, Waveform Analytics groups similar segments and reports their occurrence counts, helping engineers identify rare patterns and investigate unexpected device behavior.
