Demand for higher data throughput in AI data centers is accelerating the shift to 800GE and 1.6 Terabit Ethernet (1.6TE) network interconnects. Interfaces using 212Gb/s and 106Gb/s electrical lanes are critical for achieving meeting higher interconnect reliability as networks require more bandwidth and lower cost per gigabit. Industry standards for 800GE and 1.6T pluggable multi-source agreements (MSAs) define a wide range of high-speed fiber and copper interconnects. Keysight’s multiple-lane Functional Interconnect Test Solutions (FITS-8CH) provides 8 Tx and 8 Rx channels of functional Bit Error Rate (BER) and Forward Error Correction (FEC) performance validation.
Eight (8) independent Tx and Rx channels support PAM4 212Gb/s, 106Gb/s, and 53Gb/s channel speeds and can simultaneously measure real-time BER performance on all channels.
With the Advanced Option, get key FEC-related measurements such as pre-FEC and post FEC, BER, frame loss ratio, and FEC symbol-error performance with distribution analysis, data tables, and graphical charts on 224G channels.
Offers product‑development testing, QA of assembled interconnects, and in‑line, near‑line, and end‑of‑line error‑performance validation for sub‑assemblies and final assemblies, with direct 1.85 mm RF connections to MCBs and electrical evaluation boards. Error performance validation of the interconnect typically occurs after completing physical Layer 1 electrical and optical IEEE802.3dj specification compliance, design validation and stress tests. FITS-8CH sends and receives PRBSQ patterns to simultaneously test all eight (8) transmit and eight (8) receive electrical lanes of the interconnect. This provides a Bit Error Ratio (BER) measurement for each lane and offers an easy way to compare the overall performance of all lanes at full line-rate bit rates. Every lane can be benchmarked for its BER performance, and the effects of cross talk in more realistic use cases can be observed. Further insight into error performance can lead to tap setting adjustments. On 212Gb/s electrical lane interconnects it is important to evaluate long-term FEC error correction performance using FITS-8CH FEC monitoring statistics.

Using standard RF 1.85 mm, 1ps, phase-matched coaxial cables across the connector, FITS-8CH delivers the highest signal integrity possible for a system of its type. The built-in SCPI API allows you to control the FITS-8CH and write test scripts if the FITS GUI is not your preference. The FITS GUI has a report generator that exports to a PDF file for comprehensive interconnect information, test set up and measurement results, and data graphs. You can save test configurations and reload them to execute repeatable tests suites.
The signal integrity of the FITS-8CH is among the best in the industry. To further enhance FITS-8CH signal performance, the Advance Option provides the ability to conduct lane tuning — when connected to an electrical Keysight DCA — to adjust the eye of the signal for the best performance on every channel. The Advance Option enables the FEC Monitor statistics for the 212.5Gb/s lane speed, providing an array of FEC statistics and symbol-error distribution analysis.
