Use EIS and emulation to determine EV battery module quality

Verifying EV battery module quality requires testing for any faulty connection, abnormal behavior, or early failure in the module’s battery cells. Characterization of parameters such as temperature influences and their reciprocal electrical and thermal impact on the cells helps ensure the module performs to specifications. Achieve verification through emulation of a higher power source and sink, and with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements.

Make EIS measurements using dedicated mechanical fixtures to connect the device under test and electrical calibration schemes. Specialized software calculates battery cell impedance. The hardware connects to the device by a Kelvin connection, which enables separate sensing of the response voltage. Current and voltage signal processing takes place in the response signal acquisition block and is streamed to a host computer for data processing.
