Modular Automation Switches are part of the Keysight (formerly Spirent) Velocity product family.
Test labs that support multiple projects, teams, and interface speeds need a way to reconfigure physical connectivity without manual patching. Modular Automation Switches address this by combining Layer 1 optical-electrical-optical (OEO) matrix switching with a pay-as-you-grow chassis architecture. Three chassis options — 1, 3, and 12 slots — scale from 96 to 1,152 ports of 10 GbE, supporting Ethernet and six additional protocols through interchangeable blade modules. Controlled by Velocity Core or third-party automation systems, the switches integrate into existing lab workflows to enable remote, secure access to test beds from anywhere.

Three chassis options are available. The 3901 is a single-slot, 1 rack unit (RU) chassis. The 3903 is a 3-slot, 3 RU chassis with fully redundant power and control. The 3912 is a 12-slot, 16 RU chassis with fully redundant power and control, pluggable Switch Fabric Modules (SFMs), and cross switch link (xSL) support for multi-chassis topologies.
All three chassis support two blade types. The S-Blade Pro provides 24 Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus (QSFP+) ports per blade with network impairment and utilization metrics features. The S-Blade 64 provides 32 Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus (SFP+) ports and 8 QSFP+ ports per blade with ultra low-latency Layer 1 connectivity (<5 ns).
The switches support Ethernet, Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Optical Carrier (OC), Fibre Channel (FC), Optical Transport Network (OTN), and SONET. The software-adjustable any-rate blades handle these protocols through a single non-blocking switching fabric.
Yes. The modular automation switches can be controlled by Velocity Core for centralized lab management or by third-party automation systems. Velocity Core provides centralized topology management, reservation-based scheduling, and just-in-time provisioning.
