Measure PAM3 Eye Opening and Signal Integrity in GDDR7 Interfaces

Measuring GDDR7 eye diagrams is more challenging than previous generations because pulse amplitude modulation 3-level (PAM3) signaling reduces voltage margins while increasing sensitivity to noise, inter-symbol interference, and channel loss. Each signal has multiple eye openings that must remain clearly separated under real conditions, including distortion which can compress eye height and eye width. Engineers must evaluate vertical eye height, linearity, and timing margin to determine true signal integrity.

Engineers use a high-bandwidth real-time oscilloscope, typically 50 GHz or higher, with low-loading probing and PAM analysis software to accurately acquire and reconstruct multi-level waveforms. The system applies clock recovery, equalization, and statistical processing to generate eye diagrams and extract eye height, eye width, and level separation. These measurements enable consistent comparison of signal integrity across devices, channels, and operating conditions.

GDDR7 PAM Eye Diagram Measurement Solution

GDDR7 PAM eye diagram measurement requires accurate reconstruction of multi-level waveforms to evaluate eye opening and signal integrity under reduced voltage margins. Keysight's GDDR7 PAM eye diagram measurement solution includes a high-performance Pro oscilloscope with PAM analysis software and automated workflows that generate PAM3 eye diagrams with clock recovery, equalization, and multi-level signal separation. The solution provides repeatable measurements of eye height, eye width, and level separation, enabling engineers to quantify signal degradation, compare design tradeoffs, and identify margin limitations before formal compliance testing.
