RF Gain Compression Test

RF gain compression testing requires a controlled source, a device or signal path under test, and a calibrated output measurement path. The analog signal generator applies a continuous-wave stimulus while input power is stepped across the operating range, allowing the output response to be measured at each level.

The test works by comparing the measured output power against the expected linear gain response. As the amplifier or RF path approaches compression, output power no longer increases at the same rate as input power, allowing engineers to identify the compression region and the 1 dB compression point.
