How to Check Antenna Behavior OTA

Quickly Check Device Antenna Behavior

Checking device antenna behavior requires an over-the-air (OTA) connection between the integrated device antenna and the measurement equipment. The device is positioned inside a compact chamber and communicates with horn antennas rather than being connected directly to the RF test interface.

Four horn antennas with adjustable positions provide multiple possible OTA paths for checking device response. Integrated switches select the required path, and the millimeter-wave radio head can be mounted close to the horn antenna connections to limit signal-path loss during the measurement.

OTA Antenna Behavior Check Solution

Check antenna behavior by placing the device in the chamber and measuring through a selected horn antenna position. The F9681A provides four adjustable horn antennas and integrated switches so the OTA measurement path can be configured without rebuilding the chamber setup. An M1740A mmWave transceiver can be mounted close to the antenna connections to reduce the RF path between the chamber and external instrumentation. The chamber can be combined with an E6681A EXM-WB or E7515B UXM 5G platform. Its compact size allows these antenna checks to be performed on a bench, within a production rack, or at a repair station.
