Introduction

 

Managing many tests at the same time is one of the biggest challenges for high-speed digital engineers. With each new generation of high-speed computing standards, engineers have more tests and factors to consider while validating their devices.

 

In traditional test setups using an oscilloscope, you need to perform signal acquisition and signal analysis on the same physical hardware. The acquisition and analysis processes work sequentially because of limited computing resources. Sequential processing limits your oscilloscope usage and throughput because you must complete the previous signal analysis for each new signal acquisition. Depending on the complexity of the analysis task and processor speed, the computation might take much longer than the acquisition time.

 

Use Case Summary

 

Complex computations slow down overall throughput, and acquisition hardware is idle during the analysis. The solution to this challenge is to offload the analysis to the cloud, which speeds up the analysis (data processing) and the overall test time by using the measurement disaggregation technique. By using compliance software with measurement disaggregation, signal acquisition remains on the oscilloscope, but signal analysis goes into the cloud. This allows continuous data acquisition and computation of the test result to run in parallel, reducing the overall test time. Measurement disaggregation enables engineers to automatically execute their compliance tests and display the results in a flexible report format.

 

Solution Overview

 

The Keysight measurement disaggregation solution, based on Keysight’s UXR oscilloscope and compliance test software, enables a compliance application to quickly generate test results by dividing tasks among multiple machines. For example, an oscilloscope can continuously capture waveforms while cloud servers analyze and post-process the waveforms. With the cloud, you can also spread-out post-processing into one or multiple servers.
