The Optical Internetworking Forum – Common Electrical Interface (OIF-CEI) defines a series of high-speed electrical standards, including the latest 224 Gb/s generation, which supports multiple interconnect channel lengths such as Medium Reach (MR), and Long Reach (LR). These specifications are widely adopted in high-speed optical and electrical interconnect strategies, where tradeoffs in channel length, power consumption, and error rate are optimized to meet system-level performance and cost targets.

 

Several industry and standards bodies have defined specifications for 200 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s high-speed electrical interfaces using PAM4 modulation. For example, the OIF-CEI 224G Implementation Agreement (IA) defines 224 Gb/s operation using PAM4 signaling, extending the CEI-112G-XSR/VSR/MR/LR framework to support next-generation interconnects for 1.6T and 3.2T systems.
