What is Leakage Current?
Leakage current flows from either AC or DC circuit in equipment from both the input and output to the ground. It typically occurs when there is a fault in the insulation of electrical devices. There are several ways to measure a board's leakage current with an ICT, such as adding an SMU to the ICT. However, doing so can be costly. This application note discusses alternate solutions that use the latest feature from the 1.21p version software and a serial resistor to measure a DUT's leakage current.
Measuring Leakage Current
The standard practices for measuring leakage current using a serial resistor would typically require a battery on a board. In some cases, the battery may not even be present, or the user would like to measure it without the battery. Adding a serial resistor between a DUT's power supply and a power node on the board lets you measure the leakage current without the onboard battery.
