Simplify Electronic Warfare Test Signal Creation

Electronic warfare (EW) system testing requires a controlled radio frequency (RF) environment containing representative radar emitters with defined amplitude, frequency, pulse width, modulation-on-pulse, pulse repetition interval, coherent processing interval, and antenna scan modulation. Engineers can combine multiple emitters to exercise threat identification, prioritization, classification, de-interleaving, sorting, subsystem correlation, and electronic countermeasure functions.

More advanced scenarios add custom in-phase and quadrature (IQ) modulation, variable pulse rise and fall times, arbitrary modulation, and non-linear chirps. For multi-port systems under test, coherent sources can also reproduce angle of arrival (AoA) and dynamic kinematics by varying power, Doppler frequency, and phase between ports according to geometry-based models and waypoint-defined routes.

Scenario Visualization

Create the test environment by defining individual emitter parameters and combining emitters into a representative RF scenario for direct-injection or over-the-air testing. N7660C Signal Studio for Multi-Emitter Scenario Generation provides the signal-creation environment, while UXG signal-generation hardware plays the scenario into the system under test. The solution supports control of radar parameters including frequency, amplitude, pulse width, pulse repetition interval, coherent processing interval, and antenna scan modulation. The N5194A UXG Vector Adapter extends scenario generation with custom IQ modulation and complex pulse characteristics. Multiple coherent UXGs can support angle of arrival and kinematic simulations by controlling relative phase, amplitude, timing, Doppler, and power.
