Evaluate Composite Analog Signal Behavior

Wired analog communication circuits can receive signals whose amplitude, timing, and frequency content change within the same waveform. A simple sine or square wave may not reproduce those relationships, so distortion, clipping, or timing behavior measured at the device under test (DUT) may not represent its response to the intended signal. The challenge is to preserve the complete waveform during repeatable tests.

The test applies a defined composite signal to the circuit and compares the input and output in the time and frequency domains. An oscilloscope or analyzer measures amplitude error, waveform distortion, timing displacement, clipping, and changes in spectral content. Repeating identical signal conditions enables direct comparison across operating points, component values, or circuit revisions.

Analog Communication Waveform Simulation Solution

Perform the test by loading a defined composite communication waveform, applying it to the device under test, and capturing the input and output with an oscilloscope or analyzer. Advanced Benchtop Waveform and Function Generators, configured with their optional arbitrary-waveform capability, provides a 20 MHz, single-channel source for repeatable custom stimulus. Trueform waveform generation preserves the designed waveform samples, while sequencing allows verified segments to be reused, reordered, repeated, or changed by a trigger. Set amplitude, offset, sample rate, source termination, and filtering for the circuit interface. Compare the resulting time-domain shape and spectral content to identify amplitude error, clipping, timing shifts, or distortion.
