Characterizing Device Behavior in the Presence of Various Signals
By evaluating the physical layer behavior and application-level mitigation strategies early in development, manufacturers can simulate realistic end-to-end scenarios, quantify performance metrics, and verify coexistence with other devices. This proactive approach supports compliance with ANSI C63.27—a standard that not only promotes robust wireless performance but is also strongly encouraged by regulatory bodies like the FDA during medical device approvals. An optimal coexistence test plan requires the test engineer to characterize the expected RF environment, choose the test signals and then compile the functional wireless performance (FWP) requirements.
The test setup should consist of a signal generator which generates the interference signals to challenge your device against real-world scenarios and a signal analyzer to monitor signals in the spectrum. Consider using a dedicated software with pre-configured interference scenarios to automate the tests in compliance with the ANSI C63.27 requirements. A customizable software will be ideal to accommodate specific test cases and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Wireless Coexistence Test Solution
The Keysight Wireless Coexistence Test Solution offers a built‑in library of 100 predefined test scenarios aligned with ANSI C63.27, streamlining testing across all three tiers, from baseline interference to complex multi‑signal environments. The solution features a vector signal generator spanning 9 kHz to 8.5 GHz, scalable to 110 GHz, with modulation bandwidths up to 250 MHz (expandable to 2.5 GHz) and one RF port supporting up to eight virtual signals.
The solution’s signal generation capability and easy to use automated software simplifies frequency selection and power level adjustments to the interfering signals to create repeatable known test scenarios. It also offers signal conditioning to automate more test scenarios, and a companion device for radio signals like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® Low Energy and LTE.
