As development expands in areas such as the Internet of Things, wearables, mobile, automotive, and healthcare, so does the need for better electric current monitoring solutions. Industries are looking for more cost-effective ways to monitor multichannel current measurements. By selecting the right switching module and general-purpose multiplexer module in your data acquisition (DAQ) system, you can extend your current measurement channels many times.

Test Challenges

There are many methods of multichannel current measurement, including using a digital multimeter (DMM) with a customized multiplexer or switching circuit and using a DAQ system. However, most multiplexers in DAQ systems have only two channels for current measurement. If the DAQ mainframe does not have a builtin shunt resistor for current measurement, the user will need to build an external shunt resistor circuit to perform the current measurement. With existing test systems, most users will need at least two DAQ systems to perform multichannel current measurements.
