Measure Modulated Power Amplifier (PA) Behavior

Validating modulated load pull requires wideband modulated stimulus, calibrated radio frequency measurement paths, and analysis of amplifier behavior under realistic operating conditions. Engineers apply a digitally modulated signal to the power amplifier (PA) under test and measure nonlinear response metrics such as error vector magnitude (EVM), adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR), noise power ratio (NPR), gain compression, and spectral regrowth. The measurement must preserve signal fidelity from the source to the device input and from the device output to the analyzer.

The test setup combines a vector network analyzer, vector signal generator, and modulation-distortion analysis to characterize the amplifier at the device reference planes. Vector calibration extends the measurement reference planes to the device under test, allowing the modulated stimulus and response to be analyzed with improved accuracy. This approach supports RF and millimeter-wave amplifier characterization where impedance conditions, modulation quality, and nonlinear distortion must be evaluated together.
