Remote Network Power Measurements

Remote radio frequency (RF) power measurements require placing the sensing hardware near the measurement point while allowing engineers to control acquisition and retrieve results from another location. Long cable runs between the radio frequency source and measurement equipment can introduce attenuation and additional uncertainty, while physical access to remote equipment may be limited during system operation. A LAN-connected power sensor allows the RF measurement to occur close to the device under test while measurement control and data are transferred over the network. This architecture is useful for distributed test environments, remotely located equipment, and installations where repeated physical access to the measurement point is impractical.

The measurement setup typically includes the radio frequency source or device under test, a LAN power sensor located at the measurement point, and a network-connected computer running supported measurement software. Engineers establish the network connection, configure the measurement parameters, and acquire power readings remotely while the sensor remains installed near the RF signal. Measurements can be monitored and recorded without relocating the sensor or maintaining a direct USB connection between the measurement point and the operator's computer. This separates the RF measurement location from the control location while preserving a short RF connection at the test point.

Network connectivity allows the power sensor to remain at the radio frequency measurement point while instrument control, measurement results, and automated test commands are exchanged with a remotely located computer. Engineers connect the sensor to the LAN, establish communication with the host system, and configure acquisition through supported measurement software. The sensor performs average power measurements locally while measurement results are transferred across the network for visualization, logging, or further analysis.
