Improving Network Security Threat Detection

Improving Network Security Threat Detection

Collecting security-related information is one thing. Getting the most benefit from that data is another. Security analysts get lots of alerts from their security tools. This forces them to prioritize the ones that will get investigated. When additional context is added to the security data, it makes it easier to see what traffic needs a closer look. For instance, discovery, forensics, and remediation all require correlation analysis among the different tools that perform different functions. Correlation analysis becomes easier when all of the network tools get reliable access to relevant traffic at the same time. Enhancing that traffic with context makes it faster for security analysts to get the most from their tools.

Optimize Power Delivery with Autoranging DC Power Supply

Optimize Power Delivery with Autoranging DC Power Supply

Finding the right DC bench power supply for your application can be challenging since a vast number of power supplies are available in the marketplace. Not all power supplies are the same. There are multiple factors and important features to consider when selecting a general-purpose bench power supply. Autoranging power supplies are an essential tool in product development and functional testing for a wide range of electronic devices and systems. For example, the DUT draws constant power under variable input conditions such as DC motor drives and regulated DC-to-DC power supplies. In such circumstances, the ability of the autoranging power supply source to provide more current at the reduced output voltage is critical. An autoranging power supply provides flexibility because you can use only one power supply to create voltage and current combinations. The design features of the Keysight E36200 and E36150 Series autoranging power supplies manage an extensive list of applications and provide more current at every voltage level to support your future test needs.

Explore the Benefits of Surge-Handling DC Benchtop Power Supply

Explore the Benefits of Surge-Handling DC Benchtop Power Supply

Electrical and electronic circuits are increasingly power-hungry and often demand higher peak currents than normal operating modes when powering inductive or capacitive loads. As consumers demand more features and functions from everyday electronics, engineers need to design and build devices that do more than ever before. Most of these devices consume significant power to fuel these new capabilities. Electromechanical components and devices, such as motors, actuators, and pumps, require an initial start-up current much higher than the steady state draw. The start-up current can be two to three times the average operating current, lasting 100 milliseconds (ms) or a few seconds. A suitable alternative is to find a power supply to manage peak power capabilities because peak power ratings can exceed the normal ratings for short periods without going into an over-current mode. Using a power supply with peak power handling features is ideal for testing and powering up electromechanical or high-capacitance devices that require a quick surge of peak power source for only a tiny fraction of the time. It is better to use this kind of power supply rather than invest in a costlier higher power rating supply you do not necessarily need. Power supplies with enhanced peak power capabilities prevent transient overpower scenarios and load spikes from damaging the power supply or your DUT. At the same time, such power supplies ensure higher savings without compromising the system’s reliability because the average power will be lower than the peak demand. Using a power supply that capable of handling peak loads but with a lower overall rating, enables you to employ a smaller power supply while also reducing the weight, cost, and system size of your circuit. The Keysight E36150 Series benchtop DC power supply with peak power-handling capability accommodates a short burst of load spikes from your DUT for up to three times the maximum power rating at 2.4 kW. The E36150 is well-suited for testing and powering up electromechanical or high-capacitance devices that require a quick surge of power.

Threat Hunting 101

Threat Hunting 101

While security threats in general are a consistent concern for IT departments, the specific types of security threats change over time. For instance, according to the WatchGuard Internet Security Report - Q1 2019, cyber attackers are altering their forms of security attacks that includes: an increase in malware, changes in network attacks, new Mac adware variants, and a surge in web application attacks (like XSS and SQLi). This is important because what you do not know about the security of your network really will hurt you. Since security threats are changing, this could mean that you also need to change, or at least augment, your security tactics. One tactic that has been increasing for a couple years now is to actively hunt for threats on your network. Passive security practices just aren’t good enough anymore. You need to be proactive to stop a breach, as the threats themselves have become much more sophisticated and harder to detect. Read this white paper to get an overview what you need to start a threat hunting practice and how to go about it.

Improving 5G Millimeter-Wave Signal Analysis Accuracy

Improving 5G Millimeter-Wave Signal Analysis Accuracy

Millimeter-wave technology is a crucial element that sets 5G apart from 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE). The technology creates many challenges across the workflow in design, manufacturing, and deployment. At mmWave frequencies, significant path loss makes radio-frequency (RF) power limited and costly. And mmWave frequencies introduce a disruptive change in test methods. Measuring performance metrics using over-the-air (OTA) test methods makes achieving accurate and repeatable results more difficult. Wide bandwidths also introduce more noise and frequency responses. These challenges increase measurement complexity and uncertainty for chipset and device makers, network equipment manufacturers, and operators.

Optimize Signal Quality In 5G Private Network Base Stations

Optimize Signal Quality In 5G Private Network Base Stations

Enterprises can harness the advantages of 5G private networks for businesses with support from the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards, Release 16, and more. In order to provide a comprehensive coverage of 5G new radio (NR) private network, 5G NR measurement applications running on a signal analyzer should be able to measure and interpret transmitter tests. Some key tests include output power, output power dynamics, transmit ON/OFF power, transmit signal quality, unwanted emissions, and transmitter intermodulation. Therefore, it is essential to select testing devices that can provide robust performance and ensure that the base station transmitters in the network perform to standards. To characterize and test millimeter-wave (mmWave) products' true performance, designers and manufacturers need to address testing challenges that make the signal quality more susceptible to impairments. Error vector magnitude (EVM) measurement can give powerful insight into the performance of a digital communication base station transmitter and is one of the primary metrics to assess the quality of the transmitted signal. This white paper will discuss the EVM measurement as a key component of transmit signal quality in 5G private network base stations, the testing challenges that mmWave poses, and the Keysight solutions that address these challenges.

Stress Testing Your Device with Simulated Waveforms

Stress Testing Your Device with Simulated Waveforms

Digital components and circuits must be able to withstand a certain amount of noise and jitter in clock and data signals to ensure the reliable operation of your device. If they do not, the result could be communication errors or system failures. Noise, jitter, cross talk, and reflections can cause signal distortions. Transient signal spikes can appear to be valid clocks, or the receiving system might misinterpret data. Such effects cause system failures. The design must minimize distortions to ensure accurate and reliable operation. Therefore, engineers need to stress their devices with these kinds of distortions during design, validation, and production. Stress testing provides valuable insight into the performance of your device under extreme load. Identifying the potential breaking points in your application will allow you to correct them before they become expensive production issues. Engineers must test the limits of their designs to ensure that the products achieve ideal maximum performance and the new hardware meets design specifications across the full range of operations. This white paper discusses the importance of stress testing and explains how to use a function generator to simulate the waveform and stress test your device.

Get More Usable Power with Autoranging Power Supply

Programmable DC power sources are an essential tool in product development and production testing of a wide range of electronic devices and systems. In many instances, functional test requires submitting the device-under-test (DUT) to a wide range of operating conditions. In some cases, the DUT draws constant power under variable input conditions. Common examples are DC motor drives and regulated DC/DC supplies. In such circumstances, the ability of the programmable DC source to provide more current at reduced output voltage is valuable. We refer to this ability as “autoranging.” DC supplies without autoranging often require users to use multiple supplies to test the DUT under varying input voltage conditions.
