Highlights

Formerly available through the Spirent Velocity automation portfolio Polatis switches use piezoelectric DirectLight beam-steering technology for nonblocking, single-mode fiber switching in sizes from 8×8 to 384×384 ports. Instrument (i-series) and network (n-series) chassis options are available to meet a range of test lab automation and network infrastructure needs.

Polatis optical matrix switches deliver fully nonblocking, all-optical single-mode fiber switching using piezoelectric DirectLight beam-steering technology. The family includes instrument-class (i-series) and network-class (n-series) platforms in two chassis sizes to serve test lab automation, data center, telecom, and defense applications.

Capacity and performance

  • Matrix sizes from 8×8 up to 384×384 ports in symmetric (N×N), single-sided customer-configurable (N×CC), and asymmetric (M×N) configurations
  • Typical insertion loss as low as 0.5 dB; maximum insertion loss from 1.0 dB (6000i Ultra, up to 32×32) to 2.7 dB (7000-series)
  • Switching times of 25 ms (6000-series) or 50 ms (7000-series); data latency from 25 ns to 75 ns
  • Protocol and bit-rate agnostic up to 400 Gb/s and beyond with fully bidirectional optics

Switching and connectivity

  • Dark fiber switching allows connections to be made and held without light present on the fiber for pre-provisioning and use with intermittent or variable-power signals
  • Software-defined networking (SDN) enabled with NETCONF and RESTCONF control interfaces
  • Additional control via SNMP, TL1, and SCPI command languages with a built-in secure web graphical user interface (GUI)
  • Software partitioning enables multiple teams to share a single switch without conflict

Monitoring and protection

  • Optional integrated optical power monitors (OPMs) on every connection for signal degradation detection
  • Optional variable optical attenuation (VOA) on every connection (i-series)
