Background

Keysight offers a comprehensive portfolio of industry-leading In-Circuit Testing (ICT) test systems; namely the i3070, i1000 & i7090. When an operator loads a Device-Under-Test (DUT) electronic board and runs the test plan, the machine will start to execute the tests and generate all the necessary metadata and test measurement results which are stored in the embedded PC controller inside the ICT system. Through the new Industry 4.0 readiness enhancements, the metadata and measurement data will flow seamlessly into the PathWave Manufacturing Analytics (PMA) server application for big data advanced analytics. So how does PMA know when the testing is done and the data is available for analysis? And how are these data being transferred into PMA servers for data analysis? This is where MQTT comes into play.

What is MQTT?

Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT), is a standard, lightweight, publishsubscribe network protocol that transports messages between devices and can be used in an IoT architecture. MQTT has a concept called publish and subscribe. The publisher is the device/client who publishes data to brokers on a specific topic, while the subscriber is the device/client who subscribed to the topic and which is able to receive data sent from the publisher.
