Verify 5G FR2 Devices Over-The-Air

Over-the-air (OTA) verification of a 5G Frequency Range 2 (FR2) device requires a controlled chamber, antennas positioned relative to the device under test, and a millimeter-wave radio interface connected to the test platform. The device communicates through the chamber rather than through a direct radio-frequency cable connection.

The measurement setup places the radio head close to the horn antenna connections to reduce the radio-frequency path between the instrumentation and chamber antennas. Adjustable horn antenna positions allow device behavior to be checked over the air while integrated switching routes the required measurement path.

5G FR2 OTA Verification Solution

Perform the test by positioning the phased-array device in a controlled compact antenna test range and coordinating angular movement with radio frequency stimulus and measurement. The F9650A Compact Antenna Test Range provides the over-the-air environment required to characterize radiated antenna and phased-array performance at millimeter-wave frequencies. The test system can use compatible signal generation, signal analysis, network analysis, antenna measurement, and chamber-control capabilities to coordinate the measurement workflow without requiring direct RF connections to the device under test. Measurements can include radiation patterns, effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP), gain-to-noise-temperature ratio (G/T), gain compression, and error vector magnitude (EVM).
