Verifying a 5G device for RF / radio resource management (RRM) conformance requires running the conformance test cases defined by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications. Chipset and device makers may start testing in a pre-conformance phase before performing certification testing at an officially recognized lab. The Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PTCRB, part of the Cellular Telephone Industries Association (CTIA), support the most crucial certification programs that establish the conditions for test tool validation and lab accreditation. Additionally, devices must comply with supplementary local test requirements from mobile network operators (MNOs) or regulations. Creating and configuring a test plan is the first step in the testing process. Once the appropriate test plan is ready, test engineers can execute tests individually or sequentially.
Test engineers need an RF / RRM conformance toolset with superior RF measurement and real-time processing capabilities to support 5G's diverse requirements. The solution must enable RF testing in the target band, measure in the adjacent band and out of band for some tests, and generate interference for blocking test cases. Channel condition emulation and degradation, such as additive white Gaussian noise and fading profiles, are necessary. The solution must support the latest 3GPP release to enable users to establish a 5G call with a device under test in various 5G New Radio (NR) deployment modes (non-standalone and standalone) and frequency bands (FR1 and FR2).
