Many IoT devices run on battery power, sometimes rechargeable and sometimes not. For rechargeable batteries, long battery runtime may be a key differentiator that drives customer preference. If the batteries are not rechargeable, or they are difficult to access—think of a remote weather sensor—long battery life may be essential to the economic viability of a project.
