The concept of getting a product to market on time and within budget is nothing new. However, companies have added some new steps to the introduction process to achieve those goals. One of those steps in the process is the addition of an EMC (electro-magnetic compatibility) strategy. Manufacturers have realized that in order to sell their electronic products on the commercial market, they must pass EMC requirements. Waiting until the end of the development cycle to find out whether or not a product passes regulatory agency requirements can be an expensive gamble. Failing to pass can result in costly redesign. Because of this, developers are concerned about the EMC performance of a new product from design investigation through preproduction units.
