Reproduce Controlled Narrow-Pulse RF Conditions

Pulsed RF testing requires a signal source configured for the carrier frequency, RF level, pulse width, and pulse repetition frequency (PRF) appropriate for the radar or electronic warfare (EW) subsystem. Pulse repetition interval is the time between corresponding points on successive pulses, while PRF is its reciprocal. Together with pulse width, these parameters establish the duty cycle of a repetitive pulse train.

Apply the pulsed RF stimulus to the component or subsystem and observe its response under the selected conditions. For repetitive pulses, duty cycle relates pulse width to pulse repetition interval and determines average RF power. Maintain the required pulse RF level while controlling frequency, pulse timing, attenuation, cabling, and other conditions that influence the stimulus reaching the device under test.

Narrow-Pulse Radar And EW Test Solution

Generate the test stimulus by setting the required RF carrier frequency and level, then configure pulse modulation for the desired pulse width and pulse repetition frequency (PRF). The Keysight SG6311A Pro XG7 analog signal generator covers 9 kHz to 20 GHz and supports instrument-leveled RF pulses down to a 40 ns minimum leveled pulse width. This enables you to stimulate radar and electronic warfare (EW) components and subsystems with controlled narrow RF pulses while maintaining the required RF level during each pulse. For low-duty-cycle tests, the RF level during the pulse can be substantially higher than the time-averaged power, helping you evaluate components under representative pulsed conditions without treating the stimulus as sustained continuous-wave power. Configure pulse parameters according to the requirements and limits of the device under test.
