ADS 2025 Update 1.0 is available now!

ADS 2025 Update 1.0 continues to offer the industry’s most complete RF and Microwave, High-Speed Digital, Power Electronics, Quantum Electronics design capabilities in simulation software that you’ve come to depend on. The new Photonic Designer is added to enable silicon photonics design. This release includes simulation speed and convergence enhancements for Power Electronics, EM (in RFPro, PIPro, SIPro, PEPro and QuantumPro), and ETH electrothermal. Powerful Python API programming interface enables automating AI machine learning to create neural network nonlinear circuit simulation models; and customizing all aspects of ADS workflow for optimal design efficiency and enterprise deployment. High Performance Computing (HPC) is streamlined for easy setup and access for parallelized and accelerated simulation.
Note: The ADS Ptolemy dataflow simulator is discontinued and the more capable SystemVue is the recommended replacement.

Circuit Simulation Enhancements
- Fast Envelope simulation algorithm for analyzing circuits with modulated signals.
- Circuit memory effects characterized quickly with frequency-domain signals.
- More accurate memory effects characterization with time-domain signals for verification.
More accurate RFPro 3D-EM and 3D-Planar analysis with improved meshing and visualization
- Improved port calibration to extend accuracy for sub-THz simulation.
- Improved simulation speed by 5x or more.
- Far field is computed efficiently during frequency sweep without the need to store and post-process near field first.
- New waveguide port solver and precise control of thick conductor and via meshing per layer for advanced simulation setup.
- Reuse of previous simulation results by default to cut unnecessary repeat simulations.
- Robust complex geometry meshing for more accurate FEM simulation.
- Field and mesh visualization from simulation with Mesh Domain Optimization (MDO).
Custom automated workflow with expanded Python application programming interfaces (APIs) and Python virtual environments
- Design Environment Python console to customize workflows and modify ADS workspaces programmatically.
- Python APIs can be bi-directionally called from ADS application extension language (AEL) expressions.
- Python AI training module from measured data on Keysight Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model for use in nonlinear circuit simulation.
Design and Technology Management
- Python API for external programmatic control of ADS for AI Machine Learning and workflow customization.
- The Python console enables users to develop Python scripts to control workflow, modify workspaces, automate design tasks, and customize the user interface.
- Python virtual environments can be used to manage added Python modules in the ADS environment.
- Customize Python-based pcell dialog box for pcell evaluation and automated artwork macros for use throughout ADS.
- New Python APIs for accessing the Keysight Artificial Neural Network (ANN) module for nonlinear circuit modeling.
- Python APIs can be called from ADS AEL and vice versa to enhance automation.


Design Editing and Layout
- SmartMount pcells can now features Edit-in-Place for more intuitive layout editing.
- Trace avoidance routing can be applied to path and OA path objects for 3D routing.
- Plane smoothing algorithm for all ground plane shapes with acute angles and small features.
- More robust generation of Schematic-to Layout and Layout-to-Schematic.
- Multiple ground planes, via and pad parameters can be edited simultaneously in the properties window for efficiency.
- Design Difference enhanced to compare and update net names between layout and schematic.
- New AEL functions are added for move, set origin, stacked via references in design and library.
Design Import/Export
- ADS Board Link (ABL) now supports Keep out objects.
- Improved Gerber import to support Altium Designer coordinate format attribute.
- DXF/DWG support new “Holes as slices” format to preserve arcs in exported file.
- DXF import hatches can be converted to polygons with holes to facilitate EM simulation and connectivity check.

Layout and Schematic Verification
- New Schematic vs. Schematic (SVS) circuit verification checks for mismatches in connectivity, components and parameter values.
Electrical Rule Check (ERC)
- ERC Current Density can now be sorted from high to low.
Design Rule Check (DRC)
- ADS Calibre DRC Interactive link is now supported.
- Improved performance for perforated conductive shapes (polygons with many small holes).
- Intelligent LVS selects IC library rule location when pushing into an IC from a multi-technology design.
Data Display
- Default Roboto font is used whenever designated fonts are missing to ensure data display can always open for viewing.
- Group editing of multiple plots of different types.
- New Python APIs for customizing data display menus, equations, markers and traces.
- New Python customized menus, buttons, dialogs with callbacks when windows, files or context menus are changed by user.
- Active page view can zoom, move or show using new Python widgets for workflow customization.


Circuit Simulation
- Fast Envelope simulation algorithm from GoldenGate integrated into ADS 2025.
- Circuit memory effects characterized quickly with frequency-domain signals.
- More accurate memory effects characterization with time-domain signals for verification.
- Gain compression takes into consideration nonlinear gain expansion instead of referencing to only small-signal gain. Now gain compression is computed for both small-signal and maximum nonlinear gain.
- Foundry IP-protected encrypted models previously only for GoldenGate can now be used seamlessly.
- Keysight Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model generated from Python AI training for use in nonlinear circuit simulation.
Quantum Electronics
Enhanced quantum artwork library with:
- Spiral rectangular inductor to build Purcell filters for readout circuits of superconducting qubits.
- Distributed loaded coplanar waveguide components for designing traveling wave quantum structures such as the Josephson Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifiers (JTWPAs).
- Coplanar waveguide junctions and components.
- QLoop for qubit excitation.
- Josephson Junction models (Dolan & Manhattan) for enhanced fabrication representation.
- Visual parameter editing for TransmonPocket and TransmonPocket6.


New Quantum Devices Library and examples to support Flux Quantization in frequency-domain analysis
- Four-terminal device with dedicated flux terminals and N-array of identical JJ4 junctions.
- Inductance and mutual inductance with dedicated flux terminals.
- RF-SQUID (Radio Frequency Superconducting Quantum Interference Device)
- DC-SQUID asymmetric and asymmetric with inductance
- Three Josephson Junction SQUID
- SNAIL: Superconducting Nonlinear Asymmetric Inductive eLement (SNAIL).
- Fluxonium.
- Quantum Snake unit cell and end cell.
- Magnetic flux quantum constant and function for wrapping external flux.

Silicon Photonics
ADS 2025 Update 1.0 introduces the new W3803B Photonic Designer that includes photonic schematics, models and layout. It is the industry’s complete silicon photonics chip design workflow integrated into a single design environment to accelerate the development of Photonics IC (PIC). It cuts the tedious and error prone manual integration of multi-vendor tools and data. PIC designers can now productively focus on the design and validation of optical, electrical-optical (EO) and optical-electrical (OE) circuit layouts to meet performance, yield and reliability specs.
High Speed Digital (HSD)
EM - SIPro/PIPro
- Package solder ball in AC/SI/DDR/CEMI with frequency-dependent RL-model modeling skin effect and mutual inductive couplings between solderballs
- Import Backdrill information from ODB++ and IPC-2581 to SIPro/PIPro
- Script for layout in SIPro/PIPro to save virtual pin, backdrill via and solder ball settings
- Touchstone 1 and Touchstone 2 options to S-parameter export and EMPro Python API
DDR/Memory
- Crosstalk analyzer for Memory Designer and Chiplet PHY Designer workflows
- IBIS pin cloning capability for Controller/Memory in Memory Designer

EM Simulation
RFPro
- FEM mesher is enhanced for complex geometries to improve simulation accuracy.
- New closed loop and delta gap feed types for ports with reference pin on cover will automatically embed the DUT for optimal simulation accuracy.
- Momentum delta gap feed extension is visible in the mesh and near field visualization. The current in the feed extension is included in the far field computation.
- Far field is computed efficiently during frequency sweeps instead of during post processing.
- Near field visualization from user defined or circuit excitation.
Power Electronics
- Far Field can now be computed for encrypted layout components when using FEM and Momentum.
- When running PEPro/RFPro Momentum simulations, the far field is now computed during the frequency sweep instead of post-processing stored near fields.
- Shooting analysis with improved convergence supports S/Y/Z parameters models, PWM, controlled sources, SPICE transistor models.
- Power Electronics Model Builder (PEMB) supports GaN model extraction from datasheet specifications.
- Curve Digitizer tool automatically extracts numerical data from IV and CV graphical plot images for Power Electronics Model Builder (PEMB) to create models for PE simulation.

Electrothermal (ETH) Simulation
- Dynamic ETH circuit envelope and transient simulations are now implemented for design cloud HPC with results saved directly in the client’s ETH directory for offline access.
- ETH floor planner now supports nested technology, SmartMount and encrypted thermal tech-files.
- ERC (Electrical Rule Check) supports device temperatures from an electro-thermal (ETH) simulation by highlighting equivalent schematic and layout components.
Licensing
- Requires codeword version 2024.02 or above of EEsof EDA licensing software and licensing server software, lmgrd and agileeesofd. Refer to the License Codeword Version Compatibility table.
- FlexNet FNP v11.19.2 licensing module now requires licenses to be keyed to Physical Addresses for improved security.
- No longer support aliased, virtual or removable ethernet devices such as USB network adapters or docking stations. Please contact Keysight Business Support [email protected] or your local Keysight EDA specialist to request for a license transfer to a physical MAC address if this applies to your installation.
- License Manager beta support of queuing for the next available license instead of denial when the license limit is reached.

New PathWave RF System Explorer (RFSE) in ADS
- SystemVue's powerful SpectraSys RF system simulator inside ADS.
- Performs root cause analysis to identify components causing RF system impairments.
- Supports vendor system component parts libraries based on measured sys-parameters.
- The RF System Explorer in ADS requires “RF System Explorer in ADS” license purchase.
