Vehicles are becoming increasingly connected and autonomous and can communicate with each other in what is called the V-2-V model as well as with its surroundings via vehicle-to-everything, or V2X technology. Cellular V2X or ‘C-V2X’ is rapidly becoming the technology of choice for this type of communication and has been adopted in China and more recently North America. Advocates of connected autonomous driving believe that fully autonomous vehicles, also known as self-driving cars, could reduce traffic fatalities by up to 94 percent* and potentially save hundreds and thousands of lives annually by eliminating those accidents that are due to human error.
