Temperature is the most commonly measured parameter. The three most common sensors used to measure temperature are thermocouple, Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD), and thermistor. Thermocouple is the most popular sensor of all three. A thermocouple basically consists of two dissimilar metals, joined together at one end. When the junction of the two metals is heated or cooled a voltage is produced that can be correlated back to the temperature.
This application note examines the various aspects of using a thermocouple in general and how the U2802A thermocouple input device can be used with the U2355A DAQ device to make a thermocouple measurement.
