Preparation

  1. Install the Microsoft ActiveSync on the PC if it not already there. If it is installed, it will show up on the "All Programs" list. It must be rev 4.0 or later. If you need to install or upgrade it, download it from microsoft.com.
  2. Install the remote display control software on your PC. Click on this link, then download and execute the file. (the filename is remotedsp.exe)
  • FF firmware must be A.02.08 or later.
  • Access the FF User's Guide (UG) for instructions on setting up a LAN connection between the FF and a PC. The UG is available on the web as Keysight part number N9912-90001.
  • Make sure that your PC and interconnecting LAN infrastructure operate at 100 baseT speed. Operating the FF at the slower 10 baseT speed will give very slow response and may cause operational problems with the FF.

Setup instructions (for fw earlier than A.04):

  1. Open the Remote Display Control Host on the PC (listed under All Programs).
  2. Establish a LAN connection between the FF and the PC, there are two options given below. When the connection is established you will have IP addresses for the FF and the PC. Steps 4 and 5 below assume the IP address for the FF is n.n.n.1, for the PC p.p.p.2.
    • Option 1: Direct connection between FF and PC -
      • Follow the instructions under "Direct conection using a LAN cable" in the DataLink section of the UG.
      • Follow the instructions under "On the FieldFox" under "Connect a PC to the FieldFox - both connected to the Internet" in the Data Link section of the UG.
    • Option 2: Connection through a site internet
      • Follow the instructions under "On the FieldFox" under "Connect a PC to the FieldFox - both connected to the Internet" in the Data Link section of the UG.
      • To determine the IP address of the PC, click Start, then click Run, enter "cmd", then type ipconfig in the DOS command window.
  3. Open a DOS command window on the PC. Enter "cmd" after clicking Start then Run.
  4. In the cmd window, enter telnet n.n.n.1 5024 You should get a response back indicating a telnet/SCPI session has been started.
  5. Type in diag:exec:rdis "p.p.p.2"
  6. Depending on LAN connection option used above.
    • Option 1 (direct connect):
      • A window will appear on the FF display, press the FF Enter key.
      • At the next window press the up arrow key to highlight "Connect" then press the Enter key.
      • Press Enter at the third window.
      • The FF display should appear on the PC desktop.
    • Option 2:
      • The FF display should appear on the PC desktop.
      • Click within the FF display on the PC desktop to activate the window.
      • Multiple windows may appear on the FF display. Click "OK" to remove each window.

The Remote Display function is now operational.
