- Smaller form factor: We designed these oscilloscopes to be compact, standalone units with less need for additional modules and external components. This makes them preferable for space-constrained validation setups or manufacturing test stations.
- Lower overall solution cost: Fixed-configuration models are lower cost than benchtop modular oscilloscopes, and some integrate clock recovery and are compatible with test optimization software, all of which saves on capital expenditure in test lab setups, especially when your production requires multiple test stations.
Due to their standalone nature, engineers and lab managers should consider their needs carefully when choosing their fixed-configuration oscilloscope.
- Bandwidth and data rate support: Ensure that the model of sampling oscilloscope you choose has enough bandwidth to support the data rate of the signals you are testing.
- Optical and electrical inputs: Development and validation engineers use sampling oscilloscopes for digital communications analysis, which often requires testing both electrical and optical channels. Keysight fixed-configuration sampling oscilloscopes provide the same measurement quality for optical and electrical signals and the same software support as other form factors while offering significant advantages for specific applications and needs. But there are cases where a benchtop oscilloscope would be preferable.
Standalone oscilloscopes are not upgradable in channel count or bandwidth, so you will need to add additional units as test needs evolve. Modular systems allow for upgrades to the mainframe.
Fixed-configuration oscilloscopes also do not come with screens, so you will need an external monitor to configure and operate the oscilloscope. This can be an advantage for automated test programs, but for lab-based development and validation, it may be an important consideration to have a built-in screen for viewing and analyzing signals.
