Obtaining Host IDs for Optical Design Engineering Software
Keysight Optical Design Engineering Software
- CODE V
- ImSym – Imaging System Simulator
- LightTools
- LucidShape
- LucidShape CAA V5 Based
- LucidDrive
- RSoft Photonic Device Tools
Quick Steps: Getting Your Host ID
Using Keysight Licensing or Synopsys Common Licensing (SCL) for CODE V, LightTools, LucidShape, LucidDrive, LucidShape CAA V5 Based, RSoft Photonic Device Tools, and ImSym products
- If you have a license key file, open it in a text editor. The Host ID is written on the SERVER line.
- If your license uses a dongle, the Host ID is printed on the dongle.
- If you need your computer’s Host ID for a new license or upon request by Keysight support, download and run the Get Host ID utility.
Using Legacy Licensing for CODE V, LightTools, LucidShape, LucidShape CAA, and LucidDrive products
If you are using Legacy licensing:
- Click the Windows Start button.
- Click the product name (CODE V, LightTools, LucidShape, LucidShape CAA, LucidDrive, or OSG Floating License Manager).
- Click Get Host ID to run the utility.
If you do not have software installed, you can get your computer’s legacy Host ID by downloading and running the Get Host ID utility.
What is a Host ID?
A Host ID is either a unique string that is encoded on a USB security dongle provided by Keysight or a unique signature tied to a particular computer. All Optical Design Engineering Software is designed to work with a license key that is tied to a Host ID.
Each license key is associated with a specific Host ID. If you have multiple seats of Optical Design Engineering Software, you can identify which license key file is associated with your specific USB dongle using the Host ID string.
Node-locked/Fixed License vs. Floating/Network License
There are two ways to run Optical Design Engineering Software: with a node-locked license or a floating license
- You have a node-locked license if you have an individual license tied to a USB dongle or a license tied to a specific computer (also called a fixed license).
- You have a floating license if your software is configured to check out a license over a network (also called a network license).
Where to Use a Host ID
You need to provide your Host ID when you:
- Request a license key from the web interface on Keysight Software Manager (KSM) website.
- Request a trial for Optical Design Engineering Software
Host IDs for CODE V, LightTools, LucidShape, LucidDrive, LucidShape CAA V5 Based, RSoft Photonic Device Tools, and ImSym with Keysight Licensing or SCL
There are many ways to determine a Host ID for a particular tool and operating system. The Host ID is linked to the license server for floating licenses and on the local machine for node-locked licenses. Here are a few ways to find your Host ID:
- If you have the license key file, open the file in a text editor. The line starting with “SERVER” has the Host ID on it. The host ID will either be a 12-digit hex number like 112233AABBCC, or an 8- digit number with a dongle prefix (for example: RSOFT=16845678 or FLEXID=9-1234ABCD)
- If your license uses a dongle, the Host ID is printed on the dongle.
- Ask your IT department (or whomever installed the software) for help to find your Host ID.
- Product
Specific:
- CODE V: Go to the File menu > License Properties.
- LightTools: Select the Console tab. Then go to the File menu > License…
- RSoft: Select the menu Help > About in the tool. You can find your hostID from File -> License Manager for the other products
Host IDs for CODE V, LightTools, LucidShape, LucidShape CAA, and LucidDrive with Legacy Licensing
Node-locked/Fixed Licenses
If you are using a fixed license and you already have the software installed on your PC, you can obtain your Host ID from:
- CODE V: Start > Programs > CODE V 202X.XX > GetHostID
- LightTools: Start > Programs > LightTools 202X.XX > Get Host ID
- LucidShape, LucidShape CAA, and LucidDrive: Start > Programs > LucidShape 202X.XX > Get Host ID
If your license key is tied to a USB dongle, provide the Host ID from the Dongle Host ID field. This number starts with 400-* or 80-* followed by 15 characters. If your license key is tied to a specific computer, provide the Host ID from the Hardware Host ID field. Hardware Host IDs start with C-* followed by 15 characters. An example of the Get Host ID output is shown below. The Host ID for the USB dongle attached to this computer is 400-*16TL68DC7J3FHJN.
If you do not have CODE V, LightTools, or LucidShape installed, you can download a standalone Get Host ID utility from download link in Quick Steps.
Floating/Network Licenses
If you are using a floating license over a network, please consult the system administrator managing the floating licenses. To read the Host ID on the server PC, go to Start > Programs > OSG Floating License Manager > Get Host ID.
