Prominent Law Firm Evolves Network and Security Monitoring with Keysight, Allegro Packets, and Corelight

A large law firm began modernizing its network to help streamline strategic acquisitions, bolster security and improve operations. The evolution included scaling bandwidth capacities to support data-intensive distributed networking, brand-new data center facilities, and expanded SOC operations at the same time. The multi-national firm expanded its Keysight Network Visibility Platform to accelerate its migration to 100G networks and equip monitoring systems from Allegro Packets, ExtraHop, and other Keysight partners with the right real-time data.

 

With traffic growing in both volume and complexity, the law firm opted to evolve its 40G networks to 100G and extend edge networking capabilities to several new sites. The expansion required modernizing its visibility architecture to support several new tools used in Network Performance Monitoring (NPM) and security monitoring at new collocated data centers.

 

The primary goal of the visibility upgrade was delivering clean, deduplicated traffic to monitoring and security tools. Additional requirements for optimizing operations and ROI included:

  • Building a scalable, right-sized architecture that could support 40G networking today with a clear path to 100G
  • Minimizing data center rack space requirements using just 1RU at colo centers if possible
  • Maintaining flexibility to support future firewall upgrades and other security platform changes

 

Operations teams had been using a Keysight Network Visibility Platform to aggregate and groom traffic for analysis by an Application Performance Monitoring (APM) solution that was being phased out. Having seen the value of the Keysight platform, they decided to double down on Keysight, evolving to newer packet brokers to support the new tools at both new and existing data centers.

To maximize efficiency and ROI, the law firm’s network and security architects aimed to standardize on a single visibility platform to support both IT and SOC operations.
