Sequencing using multiple independent power outputs

Devices such as microprocessors, field programmable gate arrays, and complex circuits require proper power up and down sequencing to ensure proper functionality, longevity, and safety. Most devices require multiple bias or rail voltages to resolve power up and down sequencing issues. Engineers working on devices with specific timing requirements must use a power supply with power sequencing to allow for a gradual and controlled start-up, reducing the risk of sudden voltage changes.

Power sequencing helps to avoid accidental damage to the device by automatically setting voltage outputs and delays according to a pre-scripted pattern. For a bench power supply with three DC outputs, test engineers can set the independent and isolated DC outputs with the correct voltage and current limit. Next, set the delays for each channel to represent how long the unit waits to turn on after starting the sequence. Do the same for the power-down sequence by reversing the order.
