Validating the performance of C-V2X designs with emulation

Achieving the desired performance and communication quality of a cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) system requires application-level testing that integrates C-V2X scenarios with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems. When performing V2X testing, building a real scenario is time-consuming and difficult to repeat in extreme cases. The driver’s safety is at risk, and efficiency is much lower. HIL simulation enables safe, accurate, and repeatable testing. The C-V2X HIL test enables developers to verify performance relative to the relevant Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) stack, ensuring accurate communication to and from the vehicle.

Standards bodies, such as C2C Forum in Europe, SAE in North America, and C-SAE in China, define use cases for the test. The C-V2X HIL test requires software-based simulation using realistic traffic and RF congestion conditions for the host vehicle and all surrounding remote vehicles, as defined by use cases in the relevant standards. Emulations of realistic traffic conditions provide a rigorous test of actual vehicle system performance. Developers can easily identify and address issues or weaknesses in the technology or in the lab — before deployment in the real world.
