Autotalks Achieves First Common Criteria Certification for a V2X Hardware Security Module

Autotalks develops semiconductor solutions for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. V2X systems exchange information between vehicles, infrastructure, and other road users, which makes device and communication security an important part of product design and qualification.

 

Autotalks worked with Keysight's Riscure Security Solutions device security research lab to evaluate the security of its SECTON/CRATON2 embedded V2X hardware security module (HSM) under the Common Criteria certification program. The project combined security evaluation expertise with automotive functional-test knowledge and resulted in the first Common Criteria certification for a V2X chipset with an embedded HSM.

 

Automotive cybersecurity requirements are also becoming more formalized. The V2X protection profile within the Common Criteria methodology is expected to become one of the first standards promoted to the EU Cybersecurity Certification (EUCC) framework, developed to meet the requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act, which will require manufacturers to demonstrate security throughout a product's lifecycle.

 

Autotalks needed an evaluation environment that could assess the embedded hardware security module in its SECTON/CRATON2 V2X solution against Common Criteria requirements, providing evidence that the implemented security mechanisms could resist tampering and meet the protection requirements defined by the certification methodology.
