How to Choose the Right E5071C Configuration

Every E5071C configuration has an option code that reveals key specifications at a glance. The first digit indicates the number of test ports (2 or 4). The middle character identifies the maximum frequency (8 = 8.5 GHz, D = 14 GHz, K = 20 GHz). The last digit indicates whether bias tees are included (0 = without, 5 = with).
For example, an E5071C-485 is a 4-port analyzer covering up to 8.5 GHz with integrated bias tees.

Replacing or expanding an existing E5071C setup? Start by matching your current instrument’s configuration and checking installed software options such as TDR or time domain analysis. This can help minimize changes to established test programs and measurement workflows.

Why It Fits
Measure insertion loss, gain, return loss and matching.
Measure return loss and VSWR; isolate reflections with optional time-domain gating.
Analyze impedance discontinuities, reflections, and simulated eye diagrams.
Measure multiple S-parameters with fewer reconnections.
Measure frequency conversion and harmonics using independent source and receiver frequencies.
Bias tee options start at 100 kHz, 14/20 GHz options at 300 kHz.
Why Choose a Certified Used E5071C

When an E5071C in your test line fails, every hour of downtime counts. Find a Certified Used replacement ready to ship within one week. By choosing the same configuration and installed software options, you can minimize changes to existing test programs and measurement setups.

Adding test stations or scaling up production? Expand your capacity with Certified Used E5071C analyzers that match your existing configurations. Standardize test programs and measurement workflows across stations, keep operators working with a familiar interface, and avoid introducing an entirely new instrument platform.

Get proven vector network analysis capabilities for 2- or 4-port measurements up to 20 GHz while saving up to 77% versus the listed new-equipment reference price. From filters and antennas to cables and passive components, the E5071C remains a practical choice for established RF measurement tasks in R&D, QA, and production.

FAQs

FAQs

The three-character option code describes the test set. The first digit is the number of ports (2 or 4). The second character is the maximum frequency: 4 = 4.5 GHz, 6 = 6.5 GHz, 8 = 8.5 GHz, D = 14 GHz, K = 20 GHz. The last digit shows whether bias tees are installed: 0 = without bias tees, starting at 9 kHz; 5 = with bias tees, starting at 100 kHz, or 300 kHz for the 14 and 20 GHz options. For example, E5071C-480 is a 4-port test set from 9 kHz to 8.5 GHz without bias tees.

Option TDR includes all capabilities of Option 010 and adds further functions for signal integrity work. Option 010 adds time domain transform and gating, for example to tune filters, gate out fixtures and cables, or characterize the impedance of transmission lines. Option TDR adds a dedicated interface with a TDR oscilloscope look and feel, a setup wizard, simulated eye diagrams with mask testing, jitter insertion, emphasis and equalization simulation, and Hot TDR measurements on active devices. If an instrument has Option TDR, Option 010 is not needed.

The options up to 8.5 GHz have Type-N (f) connectors. The 14 and 20 GHz options (2D5, 4D5, 2K5, 4K5) have 3.5 mm (m) connectors. Keysight offers adapters and cables for both connector types.

The E5071C works with a wide range of Keysight mechanical calibration kits and ECal modules. Examples:

  • For Type-N: the 85032F calibration kit and the N4431B 4-port ECal module
  • For 3.5 mm: the 85052D calibration kit and the N4433A 4-port ECal module

Compatibility depends on the module’s frequency range, connector configuration and the instrument’s firmware revision. For example, N469xD series ECal modules require firmware revision B.14.0x or later. For the complete list, see the E5071C Configuration Guide.

Generally, yes, provided the replacement has a compatible configuration. All E5071C options use the same user interface and programming commands, so test programs can be transferred between instruments. Make sure the instrument has the ports, frequency range and software options your program uses, as some functions also depend on the firmware revision. For a move to the E5080B, Keysight provides migration guides.

No. Keysight has discontinued the E5071C and all associated options; the last order date was May 31, 2021. For new purchases, Keysight recommends the E5080B ENA vector network analyzer with 2 or 4 ports and up to 53 GHz. Certified Used E5071C units remain available directly from Keysight, with optional KeysightCare Assured for up to 2 years.

Certified Used E5071C units come with a 90-day warranty. You can extend coverage with KeysightCare Assured for up to 2 years, including technical support from Keysight.

Yes. You can add a Keysight calibration before shipment for additional measurement confidence. Available calibration options are shown on each product page. Delivery timing may vary depending on the selected service.

Match three things:

  • the option code of the test set (e.g. 480)
  • the installed software options (010, TDR or 008)
  • any hardware options your setup relies on, such as the 1E5 high-stability time base

Also check the firmware revision, particularly if your test programs or connected accessories depend on specific firmware features. Contact our team to confirm the details of a specific unit.
