We test out an urban legend. Can a wireless car key fob's range be increased just by holding the key up to your face? Would it help to put on a tinfoil hat? Find out in this fun episode of Keysight's Live from the Lab.
Lesson 1 - Range Boosting a Wireless Car Key
A Keysight engineer uses an RF power meter to measure the signal strength of a car key from different distances. He finds that holding the key up to your chin does not actually increase the range, but it can help to direct the signal in a more favorable direction. Also discussed are other methods for boosting the range of a wireless car key, such as using a metal reflector or installing an amplifier.
